The dream vacation on the beaches of Halkidiki
If you want to experience your dream vacation in a nearby exotic destination, then head to the Halkidiki peninsula. 500 km of coastline with sandy and pebble beaches, guarantees you a good experience! Almost all beaches on the peninsula are Blue Flag certified, so you can enjoy unspoiled pure nature.
The most popular beaches are on the western peninsula of Kassandra. Among them there are sandy and sandy-stony, but most have a smooth transition in the water and are safe for families with children. Only on Hanioti, 3 m from the shore, lies a concrete slab overgrown with algae, on which you can slip. A favorite place for families is Kallithea with fine white sand and calm sea. Young people prefer the beaches of Nea Kallikratia where the most interesting part begins only after sunset.
Tourists go to Sithonia for a more peaceful and quality vacation. It is quiet, not crowded and still the same beautiful beaches – fine white sand, turquoise clear water and green vegetation. Those who want a more intimate atmosphere should choose one of the small bays on Kavurotripes beach. If you decide to have fun in civilization, then make your summer vacation in the city of Neos Marmaros – there is all the infrastructure, bars and restaurants.
The first time I set foot on the land of the gods, I was fascinated by…. everything! Nature, food, tastes, aromas, luxury hotels and beach bars – everything you could imagine for a perfect vacation is here! This is definitely the best of the tourist destinations close to Bulgaria. You should spend at least a week for it, but not to rest, but to live crazy! The peninsula is famous for its uninterrupted nightlife. It is no secret that in the summer the nightlife of Thessaloniki is moved to the Halkidiki peninsula.
Where to go in Halkidiki?
The Halkidiki peninsula is located in the northern part of the Aegean Sea and has a very interesting “trident” shape, which is formed by three thin elongated peninsulas – “fingers”. These are Kassandra, Sithonia and Agion Oros (Mount Athos). Halkidiki is the main resort of mainland Greece. Unlike the southern islands, it is covered in bright greenery even in the heat of summer. The resort generally offers a relaxing and comfortable stay, including a family one. There are hotels of all categories: from “five star” to cheaper apartments and guest houses.

Halkidiki is famous for its clean beaches and calm sea, but besides relaxing on the beach, there is still a lot to do. You can see the ruins of several very well-preserved ancient cities, as well as the Archaeological and Anthropological Museum. The main religious attraction is the monastery complex of Mount Athos – unfortunately it is not accessible to everyone, but you can enjoy a boat trip around the closed peninsula.
Each part of the Halkidiki peninsula has something special. In Kassandra you can see the Byzantine observation tower in Agios Pavlos, the old traditional village of Afitos, the thermal baths in Agia Paraskevi. In Sithonia there are excavations of ancient Olinphos with the oldest mosaics in the country (5th century BC), the old villages of the Parthenon, Sikiu and Nikiti, the vineyards of Porto Carras, the ancient ruins of Toroni and its old port of Porto Koufo. An incredible view is Holy Mountain from the rocky cape Kartalia. And of course, Mount Athos with its 20 Orthodox monasteries – the largest and most important monastic community in Greece.
Tourists often overlook the northern part of Halkidiki, which has no access to the sea. But in vain: there is also something to see here. For example, the traditional mountain villages of Arneia, Taxiaris, Agios-Prodromos; Petralon Cave with amazing stalactites and stalagmites, as well as the oldest traces of human presence found in Greece; Archaeological Museum in Polygyros, ancient Stagira, where Aristotle was born, or the forest of Mount Holomontas.
There are great beaches all along the coast of Halkidiki. However, when choosing a recreation area, you need to keep in mind some features. Kassandra is fun and noisy, mostly young people come here – beach discos are open in many cities at night, and housing is cheaper. In Sithonia, prices are twice as high, but the peace and luxury we need are worth it. Choosing the perfect peninsula for you depends mainly on your budget and expectations for your dream summer vacation!
