The Garden of Eden on the Ionian Sea – Lefkada. Dream or reality?

Popin Greece » Blog » Ionian Islands and Sea Coast » The Garden of Eden on the Ionian Sea – Lefkada. Dream or reality?

I open my eyes and ask myself? Am I awake? Or does the dream continue? It takes me a minute to realize that I am finally on the island of Lefkada, not in vain called the Garden of Eden on the Ionian Sea! White sands, turquoise blue water, endless beaches… everything a person can dream of!

Despite the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit this paradise every year, it has retained its pristine beauty. Lefkada is described as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and anyone who steps there will confirm that it is true! For years I have been dreaming of visiting this destination close to Bulgaria, but I still couldn’t afford it!

The emerald island of Lefkada

The thing that attracted me so much to this island, apart from its unearthly beauty, is the opportunity to go windsurfing! In the southern part of the island, below Vasiliki, is the meeting point of thousands of surfers from around the world. Of course, I had no experience in this sport, as Bulgaria does not offer the necessary conditions, but what better opportunity to take my first steps than Lefkada!

I will not waste time telling you about my successful and unsuccessful attempts as a surfer, but this is definitely an experience that every fan of extreme sports should experience. So far, the water, the merging with nature, the confidence and the thrill of doing something so exciting for the first time in your life are unforgettable!

Of course, you can experience your holiday in Lefkada as a traditional tourist – lounging on the beach with a cocktail in hand, visiting tourist attractions such as the fortress of Agia Mavra, the monastery of Our Lady of Faneromeni or immerse yourself in the past with the turntable museum. You have the opportunity to visit the interior of the island, where pretty little villages are located, where the locals still dress in their traditional costumes.

But I do not define myself as a traditional tourist! That doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the pleasant feeling of burying your toes in the sand and enjoying the feeling of every grain of sand seeping between them. I love watching the sunset with a glass of wine in hand, in the company of a loved one. It’s amazing how, despite the thousands of tourists who really relax on this island, it still creates the feeling of solitude! Definitely Lefkada is a paradise that everyone should visit at least once in their life!

During my stay in Lefkada for the first time in a long time I felt myself really happy! The opportunity to immerse yourself in such a magical place makes you forget all your problems and get rid of all your fears and inhibitions! All you have to do is take off your shoes, step on the sand, and forget about everything else! You are on vacation now!

If you are a fan of sea adventures or even if you are not, you should definitely take advantage of the opportunities for a full day cruise offered at Lefkada. For a small fee you will visit the nearby islands of Lefkada, one of which is the birthplace of Odysseus. During the cruise you will also enjoy the amazingly beautiful cave of Papanikolis! It is important to note that the ship departs from the port of Nydri, so if you decide to embark on this one-day adventure, this is the place!

In addition to all these attractions, the island of Lefkada also offers scuba diving, so you can truly enjoy the beauty of the Ionian Sea!
It is interesting to note that Lefkada is an extremely easily accessible resort, as it is not necessary to board a ferry to get to the place. Lefkada is connected to the mainland by an artificially filled isthmus, so pack your bags, get in the car and set off!
