VASILIKI – THE ISLAND OF LEFKADA
Vasiliki is the second largest resort located in the southern part of the island of Lefkada – 38 km south of the town of Lefkas and about 60 km from Preveza Airport. From the wide bay of Vasiliki you can see in the distance the beautiful Kefalonia – the largest Ionian island.
During the active summer season, the resort comes to life – as if all windsurf lovers meet here in July and August. This is no coincidence, as Vasiliki is recognized as one of the European capitals of Windsurfing. The reason, of course, is “Eric” – the afternoon wind that blows in the bay and because of which hundreds of surfers come here, looking forward to it all year round. As Vasiliki is best known for its water sports, the local club there offers the opportunity to train not only in windsurfing, but it is advisable to arrange your lessons in advance.
If you have come to surf, it is better to stay in Ponti – the western and newer part of Vasiliki. At this place the wind blows exactly at 4 o’clock in the afternoon and then a beautiful view is revealed – the sea is filled with hundreds of white sails.
Vasiliki Beaches
The beach of Vasiliki is with pebbles, but about 2 m after entering the water, the bottom becomes sandy. It is suitable even for children, as it is not deep.
The nearest beach to Vasiliki is Agiofili. It is located south of the resort and can be reached by a coastal path, which is extremely suitable for an evening walk. On Agiofili beach it is good to wear aqua shoes, as the stones are larger and sharper. The beach is accessible by water taxi from Vasiliki. This is one of the beaches where you will have the opportunity to achieve unity with nature – clean, real and beautiful!
Another beach that is definitely worth seeing is the 3 km long sandy beach Egremni. Incredibly clear turquoise water, the small white round stones that shine against the background of the sheer cliffs is a sight that can amaze anyone with its unearthly beauty. It should be borne in mind that the sea here becomes deep suddenly and is not recommended for young children.
Another world-famous beach that is located in the vicinity is Porto Katsiki – translated as “Port of the Goat”. The resort village of Vasiliki is 30 km away and it can be reached by car. During the summer season the beach is quite crowded and despite the parking lot above it, cars park directly on the narrow road. The view that opens is unique – a narrow coastline and light blue turquoise water. If you decide to reach the beach itself, you have to go down the stairs with about 100 steps, because of the high white rocks that surround the amazing bay. Of course, you can also reach Porto Katsiki by boat and take advantage of the organized day trips.

In addition to the beautiful beaches in the area, you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Vasiliki – as it has managed to preserve most of its old buildings, there are countless pubs and sidewalk cafes located around a small port with wonderful views of Kefalonia and Ithaca. During the summer months, ferries depart from the port for the nearby islands. The resort has a medical center, police station, post office, bakery, gas station and two ATMs.
Although the village is not large, the accommodation is easy – there are enough hotels and studios for rent, and almost all of them are equipped with a kitchenette. There are several supermarkets, but still take the opportunity to enjoy some of the best seafood dishes in the area around the port.
