LINDOS, RHODES – The town with traditional Greek white houses
Lindos is the second largest settlement on the island of Rhodes with a population of about 4000 people. The main port of the island is located in the town of Rhodes, and the airport is near it. Therefore, the easiest way to get to Lindos is by bus – from the western bus terminal in the city of Rhodes (there are only two terminals ). Another option is to rent a car so you could explore not only Lindos but the whole island. Everywhere on the island of Rhodes you can find car and motorcycle rental offices at fairly good prices. The distance from the town of Rhodes to Lindos is about 30 minutes. If you are staying in the city of Rhodes – another opportunity to visit Lindos is a day trip by boat. Excursion boats to eastern cities and beaches including Faliraki and Lindos, and Symi Island are offered at Mandraki Harbor.
Regardless of its size, Lindos will leave you breathless with your first look of the ancient city, towering the Acropolis over the traditional Greek white houses. The town is nestled in a beautiful, picturesque bay and gives you the opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful views in all of Greece. The atmosphere is unique – you seem to find yourself in a fabulous maze of narrow streets filled with lavishly decorated houses with flowers, a string of tavernas, cafes and bars.

Beaches in Lindos
Lindos has two magnificent beaches:
1) The large beach is sandy with shallow water and ideal for swimming, especially if you are with children. From here, a smaller path in the north leads to the smaller beach – Palace.
2) Palace beach – you must be careful here as there are many sea urchins.
On the western side of the Acropolis, about 10 minutes’ walk away, lies the incredible St. Paul’s Bay, popular with its crystalline turquoise waters.
Sightseeing in Lindos
The most interesting sight of Lindos is the Acropolis, which rises 116m above the city itself. The walls that can be seen to this day are left of the Knights of St. John (Hospitallers). When you come inside, you’ll find stunning ruins that include the Temple of Athens and 20 dazzling white columns. If you want to visit the Acropolis you have to walk on a steep path and it is good to get water and a hat, as there is no shade at the top and the sun is quite strong. Another option is to “grab” your donkey, though it won’t save you time. Whichever option you choose it will definitely worth it, because you will witness a unique view of the sea that does not seem to be from this world.
