BEACH AND VILLAGE OLYMPIADA, HALKIDIKI, GREECE
Olympiada is a resort village located on the shores of the Orfano Gulf, in the northeast of Halkidiki. It is 95 km from Thessaloniki and 35 km from Ierissos, with a population of less than 1000 inhabitants. Its name comes not from the once-sporting Olympics, but from the name of Alexander of Macedon’s mother.
This small Greek village is extremely beautiful and is definitely suitable for a relaxing vacation, contemplation and walking. The village is surrounded by lots of greenery, restaurants offer typical Greek specialties, and pastry shops tempt with delicious local pastries.
The beaches of Olympiada
The beach is sandy and quite long. The water is crystal clear and you can see the bottom even in a greater depth. It is no accident that the purest mussels are also said to be here, because no ships or other vessels pass through the bay. However, prepare aqua shoes, because in addition to fishes that swim at your feet, you may also encounter sea urchins. The rocky cape near the village also offers sheltered small beaches between high cliffs. All the beaches here are accessible and free, and anyone can go down and enjoy them.
There are plenty of accommodations in Olympiada – most notably family hotels, apartments and rooms for rent at affordable prices.
